   1.A non muslim cannot become the head of the state.Is it discriminatory or not?

   2.A non muslim cannot publically preach his religion a an Islamic state.Is it discriminatory or not?

   A few questions which r not exactly a a part of rights of non muslims but I m curious to kbnow about it.Apologies since I cud not find any other approprite heading to put this topic.

   1.Is it wrong on a part of a muslims to greet a christian or a non muslim on the religious day of theirs.Like-Haapy christmas..happy Diwali.

   2.Is it sin for a muslim to sing?

   3.Is it sin for a muslim to watch TV?

   4.Is it sin for a muslim to use credit cards?

   A1) Non-Muslim cannot be heads of muslim states, since it requires one to have an in depth understanding of Qran, Hadith, Islamic History and much more, which cannot be expected from a non muslim. Simple.

   A2)True that Non muslims cannot preach thier religion in an Islamic state. But practice they have full right to practice their religion with out fear and this was sanctioned by Messenger of Allah himself.

   A3)Some scholar say it is completely wrong to greet non muslims on their festivals. Other say it is ok if is means maintaining a healthy relationship with friends and neighbours, . I subscribe to later view, but only till it does not conflict with the core principals of Tawheed(Oneness of God).

   A4)Music is haram in Islam. But musicless songs praising Allah is not haram. Again it depends on local society, e.g. in west music is main part of the culture. Like numerous scholars in west say that music is not haram until it contains sex, explictness in visuals as well as words or any other thing that is haram in Islam.

   A5)Watching TV per se is not a sin. But what you watch may be a sin or not. like MTV, etc. is a sin.

   A6) Interest is haram in all its forms. But if you are dealing in such a society where avoiding interest completely is not possible Allah is oft forgiving. If you are involved with interest indirectly and it is unavoidable that Allah will forgive when we turn to HIM.

   1.How does a head of a muslim state require knowledge of Islam?Pls elaborate.

   2.So u accept the public preaching of one’s religion is probhibited.Do u agree that it is discriminatory n needs to be corrected?

   3.Most of the other religions donot mind wishing followers of other religion(in comparision to muslims).Do u see a more flexible atitude here?

   4.For other responses u r giving examples of local culture as well.Which is more important Localculture or quran/hadith?

   A1) Because Islamic state is run by Islamic Sharia, ordained by Allah Himself. Not the laws created by any human being.

   A2) Yes, No preaching of other faiths in a 100% Sharia complaint state. Yes it is discriminatory. But there are discriminations in democracy as well. Like, no Muslims and Sikhs in NSG, RAW and very negligible in IB! I maintain, it is impossible and impracticle to give each and every right to minorities in any country. If you choose to fight for your rights, Fight. otherwise accept it or leave that place. It is that simple.

   A3) I think I have answered this question.

   A4) Culture is OK until it does not conflict with Quran and Hadith. I love a lot cultural things about Kashmir, that have their roots in Hindu times of Kashmir, but since they do not conflict with Quran and Sunnah, no problem. If a cultural practice conflicts with Quran and Hadith, it has to be thrown away.

   1.Pls elaborate the Islamic functions of head of the state for instance…(which can only be performed by the head of state of Pakistan,where non muslim cannot become the president)

   2.The example you gave as of discrimination have political roots.Like Sikhs r banned bcos of Indira Gandhi,Muslims bcos of Kashmir.

   ANYWAYZ….IN YOUR PERSONAL OPINION IS DISCRIMINATION MORE IN A ISLAMIC COUTRUES OR IN A DEMOCRACY?

   A1. Dunno, about Pak, but generally it is the ability to accept the Sharia Law as supreme. And not making any law that goes against it. A non muslims may not be able to do so. It is that simple.

   A2) Ok why were not Hindus banned when Mahatma Ghandhi, The Father of Nation, was mudered by a hindu a part of Hindu Nationalist Party RSS.

   Moreover,no where did I say that discrimination is more in Islamic state than in democratic state. I said “discrimination is present everywhere in one form or other”. Now it is upto you what you see and perceive as discrimination. You have right to you opinion and I have right to mine.

   Yes ,RSS was banned after Gnadhi assasination.

   Sharia Law as supreme. And not making any law that goes against it. A non muslims may not be able to do so. It is that simple.

   Decisions r taken by cabinet.The PM has to clear it.If Cabinat (with muslims)passes a law even a non muslim PM has to pass it no matter he likes it or not.So where is the question of liking or hating?

   Yes, RSS was banned, but not Hindus per se. I say ban SIMI, JeM, LeT(which have already been), but why ban Muslims and Sikhs as a community. Is every Muslims against India. I call it DISCRIMINATION! I do not complain it. India is right about feeling inscure in case of Muslims and/or Sikhs, but do not say that we do not discriminate. I repeat, discrimination is present everywhere, in one form or other.

   About Cabinet passing law etc. etc. There is no concept of passing a law in Islam. For us Allah is the One who created a Book of Law. We have got law for everything in Quran and Sunnah. Be it from managing the family to managing the country. No one has right to create the laws, except Allah and His Messenger. So there is no point of proposing, creating and passing laws in Islamic State.

   I feel there is nothing wrong if an Islamic State disallows non-Muslims from being head of State. It all depends on which Ideals the country wants to follow.

   India likes to follow the Ideals of freedom.You have to accept that the extent of freedom of expression enjoyed by minorities in india is far greater than in most other Asian and Middle Eastern Countries.

   India is far more open towards its minorities than some Western countries even.(consider the baning of headscarves)

   As far as passing of Laws is concerned, I would like to ask how would the Sharia law deal with cyber crime? I feel you have to create new laws to deal with new situations.

   Suppose a non-Muslim gains superior knowledge in Sharia and Quran, then is it possible that he becomes the Head of State in an Islamic state? Pakistan has some Hindu individuals in high positions, whish I appreciate.

   What about women’s rights in Islamic states? Don’t you think that this issue needs deeper thought and introspection by the Muslim community?

    Yes I agree, extent of freedom enjoyed by people(or minorities) is far greater than other countries.

    As far as Sharia Laws for cyber crimes is concerned it is pretty straight forward. A theft is a theft whether is is a tradition theft or cyber theft. Difference is the system of witnesses. Scholars arround the world agree that proofs provided by modern forensic technological advancements can be taken as a witness(sometimes one forensic proof is equivalent to multiple witnesses).

    I have answered this question in earlier post. Answer is in the form of a question. Are you, as a non muslim, willing to accept Quran and Sunnah as supreme laws, UNCONDITIONALLY, even if you do not seem to appreciate or understand them?.

    What about women’s rights in Islamic states? Don’t you think that this issue needs deeper thought and introspection by the Muslim community?

    Q1)Will all people be treated equal only if they convert to Islam meaning since all others u dont follow Islam are kaffirs.since these people are treated as enemies by pious muslims.

    If you read this post(and my other related posts) carefully, you will find answers to these questions, but let me brief you here also.

    A1) Yes, in a region ruled by Sharia Law completely(not that you have some sharia laws like Pakistan) rights of non muslims are protected. No where does the Quran say(in absolute) that Kafirs are your enemies. In fact Quran and instructions of Prophet Muhammad, PBUH, make it clear. “Do not fight those, who don’t fight you” and at other places “Fight only those who fight you”. So if you being a non muslim are not willing to fight with muslims, no muslim can harm you. And if you want to fight, don’t expect us to allow you to harm us silently. In short the concept is, “Don’t hurt anyone, but if anyone puts a finger on you uproot his hand from his shoulder”.

    A2) Islam does not make any distinction between Atheist, Hindu, Christian etc. Islam simply terms them as Kafir.

    Let me make one thing clear again. The word Kafir is misunderstood a lot. It is not supposed to mean any abuse to a community. The word Kafir comes from the root word Kufr. Kufr means to deny or not accepting something. So the word kafir means someone whone denies or does not accept something. For example, scientist A proposes a theory and scientist B denies it. It happens all the time in scientific world. So, Arabic, you will say that the scientist B is a Kafir in relation to the theory of scientist A.

    Similarly, word Kafir simply means a person who denies or does not accept Islam as a religion. Meaning a non Muslim. It does not mean any abuse to a non muslims.

    If I ask you, Are you a non muslim? You will say yes. Now if you translate this into Arabic, this will be are you a Kafir.

    So word Kafir doesn not mean any abuse or degradation of status of any non muslim.

    Hi, regarding non-muslim rights, what rights do non-muslims (dhimmis) possess or exercise in Saudi Arabia? Do they have the right to exercise their religion there? because i heard from some others that even the Christian Bible cannot pass the airport security in Saudi Arabia. Second, do rights of the dhimmis differ in many other islamic states? which Islamic countries or states have a more lax treatment on non-Muslims? In Pakistan or Sudan for example, how do they treat dhimmis? What’s the primary basis for treating non-muslims as such or basis on the guidelines for the rights of non-Muslims in an Islamic State?     First of all you have to do a bit of research on Dhimis ask some reputed Muslim scholars around you.

    2) Yes Non-Muslims have right to practice their religion in Arabia. But in Saudi Arabia they don’t have right to preach their religion. Imagine a Muslim wanting to preach Islam in Vatican.

    3) Pakistan/Sudan are not Islamic countries.

    Primary basis for treating non-muslims as such or basis on the guidelines for the rights of non-Muslims in an Islamic State is way beyond the scope of this comment. This topic can span books together. But I will try to cover as much as possible in a separate blog post someday.

    I will accept all that is based on the quran and athentic sunnah without any hesitation.

    We can go on like forever arguing like this. But i quite like the reassuring words of the prophet in his last sermon, we do not oppress and we do not let ourselves being oppressed (stg like that)
